Gazetted in 1934, the Akagera national park is the place to be for the savannah wildlife game drives.
The wildlife checklist includes the Elephants, Giraffes, Zebras, Buffaloes, Topi, Elands, Impalas, Baboons, Sitatungas, Warthogs, Crocodiles, giant Hippos, and Monkeys.
The park is also the a haven for the birds watchers, and the most frequently sighted birds are the Fish Eagles, White Egrets, Ibis, Jacanas, Herons Sandpipers, Plovers, Open Billed Stock, and the rare and bizarre-looking Shoe Bill Stock.
Akagera national park provides the opportunity to explore its resident wildlife my motorboat, especially on Lake Ihema, which is located not far from the 4-Star, brandy new, Akagera Game Lodge.
