Located in the south west of Rwanda, at an altitude that ranges from 1,600m to 2950m, and covering an area of 970 square kilometers, Nyungwe Forest national park is the largest montane natural forest in east and central Africa.

The Nyungwe Forest National park is famous for its rich diversity of primates species, including 13 types of primate, that include large troops of Chimpanzees, Black and White Colobus Monkeys, Mangabeys, and Blue Monkeys.

For the birds’ watchers Nyungwe Forest national park provides a sanctuary for more than 275 species of birds, and 25 of them are endemic to the area.

The Blue Touraco is the biggest attraction among the birds’ species.

Apart from the fascinating chimpanzee trekking experiences, taking nature walks to the Kamiranzove giant swamp, and to the Kamiranzovu beautiful Waterfall will richly reward visitors to Nyungwe Forest national park.

Accommodation is at the Gisakura Guest House hotel, just outside the park’s boundary, or in one of the up-market hotels in Cyangugu town, on the shores of Lake Kivu.

While traveling to Nyungwe Forest national park, one has the possibilities of visiting the Nyanza ancient royal palace museum in Nyanza town, Butare national museum, followed by a performance by Intore traditional Dancers.
